Alice Friedrich

Alice L. Friedrich, 90, of Williamsburg, Virginia, died on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. She was born in Hayward to the late Martin and Marvel Lysne. She was one of 10 children that consisted of nine girls and one boy.

Alice attended Albert Lea High School and then went on to study at Northwestern Medical School in Minneapolis. After graduating she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee as a medical technician and then Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.

Alice was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Annandale, Virginia, for 35 years. She was an active member of King of Glory Lutheran Church for over 20 years, where she would make calls to the newest visitors attending the church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and traveling the world, visiting more than 50 countries worldwide. She was a lifetime member of the Naval War College Foundation and the Navy League of the United States.

Alice is preceded in death by her parents; and sisters Edith Guritz, Marjorie Thompson, Doris Wayne, Rebecca Medd, Sara Lunde and Rachael Lysne.

She is survived by her husband, Albert H. Friedrich; sons Randall A. Friedrich (Mie Yanase) of Mulberry, Florida, and Jay B. Friedrich of Richmond, Virginia; sisters Grace (Gerald) Skaar of Albert Lea and Ruby Armstrong of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother, Maurice (Henrietta) Lysne; and grandchild, Allen B. Friedrich, of Phoenix.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg.
