Albert Lea Area Schools, Alden-Conger Public School, Glenville-Emmons School, Northwood-Kensett Community Schools and Lake Mills Community School have canceled classes in anticipation of a snowstorm that is expected to begin Friday morning.
United South Central Schools will close at 11 a.m.
The National Weather Service is calling for 5 to 8 inches of snow for south-central Minnesota and north-central Iowa.
Along with the accumulating snow, winds of 15 to 20 mph will likely bring minor blowing and drifting snow, creating slippery road conditions. The snow is expected to lead to slippery road conditions for both the Friday morning and evening commutes.
The snow was expected to begin between 6 and 9 a.m., with the heaviest snowfall is expected along the Minnesota and Iowa border, according to the weather agency.
The area is under a winter storm warning from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday.
