5 things to do this weekend

Published 8:27 pm Wednesday, February 6, 2019

1. Big Island Rendezvous Historic Faire

Visit vendor tables that take you back to the wares seen at the Big Island Rendezvous. Browse pottery, woodworking, ironwork, art, jewelry, colonial crafts and see demonstrations from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Northbridge Mall.

2. ALHS has Talent

A group of staff members at Albert Lea High School will team  up to bring a 14-act talent show to students and community members. Money raised from ticket sales goes to the Orrie Jirele scholarship fund. ALHS has Talent is at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Albert Lea High School auditorium.

3. Full Draw Archery Tournament

For bow hunters who aren’t excited about the weather, there’s an indoor tournament for that. Full Draw Archery Club will host a tournament in its home in the upstairs of the Knutson building from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Go for target practice at 30 animals at unmarked distances and the moving fish targets.

4. Big Freeze

Bundle up and trundle out to The Big Freeze, with events from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday largely occurring at Edgewater Bay. There will be the ever-popular Blue Ice Plunge and pictures with Elsa, as well as the addition of a pond hockey tournament and a dog sled meet-and-greet.

5. Candlelight snowshoeing

Albert Lea Parks and Recreation took its candlelight walk concept and winterized it. Edgewater Bay will become a series of snowshoe trails lit by candlelight from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Warm up in the Pavilion after, or in front of a fire, where there will be s’mores materials. Snowshoes are available, but numbers are limited. You are encouraged to bring your own.
