Arla Sorom, 1924-2019

Arla Shirley Sorom, 94, of Wells died Monday, March 25, 2019, at Parkview Care Center in Wells.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. The Rev. Mary Iverson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. Interment will be at a later date. The family prefers memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting the family. Arla was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Wells, the daughter of Adolph and Ada (Grote) Giese.

Arla was united in marriage to Herbert Meyer on Nov. 20, 1941, in Wells. Together they had two children, James Meyer and Barbara Jean Kjos. Herbert died in 1954.

Arla was united in marriage to Jim Sorom on June 14, 1958, in Wells.

Arla was greatly involved in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was funeral lunch coordinator for many years.

She enjoyed quilting and was a big card player. She loved to play bridge with her bridge club and enjoyed reading a good book. In her younger years, she crocheted a lot. She baked the best pumpkin pie and was a tremendous cook and baker. Arla loved her grandchildren and was fair and generous to them.

Arla is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Herbert Meyer and Jim Sorom; sisters Jane Dawson, Gladean Groskreutz and Lois (William) Groskreutz; brothers Dale and Elwood Giese; and brothers-in-law Laverne Stern, Clair Friday and Robert Dawson.

She is survived by her children James (Colleen) Meyer of Minneapolis and Barbara Jean Kjos (Carl) of Willmar; three grandchildren, Kimberly (Michael) Bland of Eden Prairie, Mollie Meyer of Los Angeles and Andy Meyer of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Nikko Phillips; sister, RuthAnn Friday, of Marshalltown, Iowa; brothers David (Geraldine) Giese and Paul Howard (Shizuko) Giese; along with many nieces and nephews.
