Ahead of the May Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener, area citizens are fishing for the right raffle ticket to win a fishing boat.

The 20-foot Sun Tracker pontoon was donated by Tracker and Cabella’s to help assist communities who organize the event.

“They know that (with) the Governor’s Fishing Opener, there’s a lot of costs there that come with it for the city, or the community,” said Kevin Dulitz, who is in charge of collecting raffle tickets.

So far, Dulitz said, raffle ticket sales have raised $7,800. Their goal is to sell enough tickets to raise $30,000.

“It does give us the ability to use that money to offset costs for everything that is organized in this town for this event,” Dulitz said.

The boat comes with a Mercury 90 ELPT CT motor and custom trailer. Albert Lea Recreation Manager Bob Furland said the boat also comes with a depth finder, fish finder and live wells. He encouraged people to stop by Northbridge Mall, where the boat will be on display until the weather is nice. At that time, the boat will be moved around to various community events.

Raffle tickets are for sale until May 11, Furland said. The drawing is at 7 p.m. that day. Tickets are $10 and available at the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau or the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce.

The second-place prize winner will receive a Green Mountain Grill Daniel Boone model grill with WiFi wood pellet smoker, and the third-place prize is a Yeti prize package.
