Bulldogs track teams compete in West Hancock co-ed relays

Both the Lake Mills boys’ and girls’ track and field team headed to Britt, Iowa, Monday night for the West Hancock co-ed relays.

In the warmup before the Top of Iowa Conference meet Thursday, the boys took second place and the girls finished in fourth.

Despite eight first-place finishes for the boys’ team, the Bulldogs couldn’t overcome the Panthers of Central Springs, coming in second by 12.5 points.

Four individuals came in first place for the Bulldogs. Senior Tommy Kaktis won the 400-meter dash with a time of 53.39; junior Mason Fritz won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02.81 and junior Carson Rygh won both the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run with times of 4:45.00 and 10:21.41, respectively.

The 4×100 (Bennet Eaton, Garrett Hanna, Carson Eaton and Logan Prescott); the 4×200 (Bennet Eaton, Garrett Hanna, Carson Eaton and Logan Prescott); the shuttle hurdles (Cael Boehmer, Bennett Eaton, Kaktis and Caleb Bacon); and the 800-medley (Prescott, Hanna, Kaktis and Fritz) also took first-place finishes.

Junior Jackson Rice took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.04 and Boehmer finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.43.

On the girls’ side, the Bulldogs had one first-place finisher in freshman Brooke Bergo, who won the long jump with an attempt of 15-09.

Senior Lyv Arispe also took a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.00.

The team of Arispe, Bergo, junior Megan Groe and sophomore Taylor Ingledue finished second in the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relays with times of 54.79 and 1:57.88, respectively.

Lake Mills ended the meet in fourth place with 77 points. Central Springs ran away with the victory with 151 — 29 points ahead of second-place West Hancock.

The Bulldogs will compete Thursday at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura in the Top of Iowa Conference meet.
