Letter: Freeze spending at 2017 levels

Spring has come and it is time for good policies for the U.S. and Minnesota.

Grover Cleveland, a former U.S. president, said, “…The lesson should be constantly enforced that, though the people support the government, the government should not support the people.”

Thus said the only Democratic president between 1860 and 1912.

We need to cut domestic federal spending and return responsibilities for health, education and welfare to the states. The U.S. is a republic of limited government. Look at 1955 for the cost of spending by state and federal government. The cost of living for basic needs for persons needs to be reduced so incomes go further.

Both states and the feds need to reform tort law to reduce costly excessive litigation.

The feds need to allow only fully vetted migrants in the U.S. who post bnd and have responsible, private sponsors. SSI, etc should only go to adult U.S. citizens, not kids.

Seasonal workers should be carefully checked. (Temporary legal workers only)

Both fed and state regulations need to review and reduction to foster growth and cut costs.

At the state level, we don’t need an increase in the gas tax but take existing sales tax on cars, tires, batteries, etc. (TBA) for road and bridge needs. Electric cars are coming and TBA hits them.

Minnesota Gov. Walz’s plan of $49-plus billion budget is too high. Freeze Minnesota budget spending at 2017 level. Compare Minnesota per capita spending with South Dakota. The swamp in D.C. and St. Paul still needs to be drained.
