Community members will have an opportunity to enjoy a luncheon with family and friends while helping preserve the historic stage curtains at Bohemian Brick Hall, according to a press release.

Members of Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge  No. 44 and Friends of the Bohemian Brick Hall will host a spring luncheon from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, with chicken wild rice salad and various breads and cakes, and featuring live music by Opus 4, a string quartet from Albert Lea.

The money raised will be used toward an initial examination and assessment, which is priced well over $1,000, of the six hall stage curtains and backdrops this coming July. Rita Berg of the Midwest Art Conservation Center in Minneapolis will assess damage and condition, then give the estimated cost and options of how to save and preserve the curtains.

The curtains, most of which are over 100 years old, are painted to show castles from Czechoslovakia, scenery and advertisements for vintage local businesses.

Luncheon tickets are available for $10 from Lodge No. 44 members and at the Czech Inn near Hayward, and guests under age 12 or over age 90 will be $7, and those over age 100 are free.

Bohemian Brick Hall is half a mile south of Bohemian National Cemetery, 17509 850th Ave. in Glenville, and about 3 miles north of Myrtle on Freeborn County Road 30.
