Freeborn County Communities Foundation report: Albert Lea Area Schools
Organization: Albert Lea Area Schools
Project: Promoting literacy
Report: The Albert Lea Area Schools grant from the Freeborn County Communities Foundation is being used to promote literacy.
One community/school partnership is promoting to families to read at home through the organization Elementary Family Nights at the public library. School personnel worked the event, as well as school interpreters.
Books were given away to families to promote home libraries in the home. The library issued 24 new library cards, and 500 activities brought people into the library to promote its importance.
Other uses of the money will be to purchase books for military families who have been deployed. The group is making book baskets for those families so they may spend some time now that they are home to relax and read with their children.
