Albert Lea, NRHEG represented at track and field state tournament

 

Three area athletes competed at the Minnesota state track meet over the weekend. NRHEG seniors Jacob Schuller and Brady Agrimson participated in the Class A meet, while Albert Lea junior Janyjor Ruei battled in the Class AA meet.

The best finish of the meet came from Agrimson in the 110-meter high hurdles. In the prelims on Friday afternoon, Agrimson qualified second in his heat and third overall with a time of 15.25. The two in front of him qualified with time of 15.18 and 15.12.

Moving on to the finals on Saturday, Agrimson again came in third place with a final time of 15.34. Sophomore Jayson Ekiyor of Providence Academy won the event, breaking the 15-second barrier with 14.96.

Schuller came in ninth place in the high jump. He cleared 5-10 on the first jump and cleared 6-00 the second time around. Schuller came in clutch and got over 6-02 on his final attempt before failing to make the jump to 6-03. Senior Yahya Madar of Mounds Park Academy won the event with a final attempt of 6-10.

Ruei competed in the high jump prelims on Friday, however, after three fouls, he failed to reach the finals and scratched out of the event. Senior Ian Fosdick of Mahtomedi won the event with a jump of 48-1.
