Bricelyn to celebrate the nation’s birthday

BRICELYN — Bricelyn will host its 62nd annual celebration Friday through Sunday in advance of the nation’s birthday.

Events kick off Friday with pulled pork sandwiches at the fire hall from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a free family movie at the fire station at 7:30 p.m. A dance featuring the 12-mile Players will run from 8 p.m. to midnight at the American Legion.

Saturday is the busiest day of the festivities, starting with the Ron Sander Memorial Run. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The 1-mile run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m., and the 5k begins at 9 a.m.

A volleyball tournament will take place at City Park starting at 9 a.m., and a parade will begin at 1 p.m. The grand marshal will be Arlen Legred.

After the parade will be a horse show featuring Jack Peterson’s Arena Showmanship, along with various activities in the park, including a bean bag tournament, petting zoo, inflatable jumpers, face painting and music.

The Bricelyn pool will be open for free from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and a single cribbage tournament will take place after the parade in the Legion club rooms.

Chicken barbecue will be served at Bricelyn Fire Hall from 4 p.m. until gone for $8, followed by a variety show at 7:30 p.m. at Bricelyn Lutheran Church.

The 12-Mile Players Band will perform from 9 p.m. to midnight at the Legion, and fireworks are slated to begin at dusk.

On Sunday, events begin with a firefighters pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Bricelyn Fire Hall, and a community worship will be in the park at 10 a.m. featuring SonRise from Lake Crystal and Joyful Noise. People are asked to bring lawn chairs. In case of bad weather, the worship will be at Bricelyn Lutheran Church.

In addition to all of the events, a medallion hunt will be underway. The first clue was expected to appear in the June 6 edition of South Central News. Clues were set to be posted weekly in the newspaper this month until the medallion is found.
