During the first week of the hands-free phone law, which was Aug. 1 through Aug. 7, officers, deputies and troopers cited 678 drivers statewide for violating the law, according to a press release.
The most citations were written in Hennepin County. Faribault County reported two citations during the first week, while no citations were given in Freeborn County.
The hands-free law bans drivers from holding their phone while driving, including to call, type text messages, video stream or access apps or the internet while driving.
