Catherine Zimney, 1917-2019

Funeral services for Catherine A. Zimney of Albert Lea will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate.

Interment will be at St. Theodore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the services at the church.

Catherine died peacefully Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at her home. She was 102.

She was born April 10, 1917, in Wells, the daughter of Joseph C. and Minnie M. (Schultz) Staloch.

Following high school graduation she went on to complete teachers training. Catherine taught country school for a few years. On June 23, 1941, Catherine was united in marriage to Tony Zimney at St. Casimir’s Church in Wells.

The couple lived in St. Louis for a short time, then on the Zimney family farm in North Dakota before moving to Albert Lea in 1945.

After raising 10 children, she remained devoted to them and their families.

A farm girl at heart, Catherine loved drives in the country. She enjoyed long walks and playing cards with family and friends. She was an avid reader and was passionate about keeping up with the news, especially political happenings.

Catherine will be greatly missed by her children Ray (Judy) of Bozeman, Montana, Mary of Albert Lea, Bob of Stillwater, David (Elaine) of Cummings, Georgia, Len (Kathryn) of Edina, Mardy (Steve) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Margaret (Jamie) of Gibson, British Columbia, Catherine (Ray) of Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Dorothy of Albert Lea and Theresa (Tom) of Louisville, Colorado; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; her brother, Louie Staloch, of Easton; and 38 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2001 and five siblings.

Catherine was very warm-hearted and caring. Her life was focused on strong faith and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas at annunciationhouse.org. They work with migrants/homeless and economically vulnerable people at the border.
