Czech festival returns once again

Czech Fest 2019 will take place at Brick Hall, north of Myrtle on Freeborn County Road 30, from noon to midnight Sept. 7, according to a press release.

The annual fall Czech festival is put on by Western Fraternal Life Association Lodge 44, whose members take part in many community service projects and activities throughout the year, according to the release.

There will be music and dancing on a wooden floor under the tent during the festival.

Malek’s Fishermen Band will provide old time music from 1 to 5 p.m. and Radio Active country/rock will play from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Czech kolache, rolicky and bread will be featured at a bake sale during the festival, along with traditional American treats and coffee. Food, pop, water, beer and drinks will be for sale at the event. There will also be a silent auction featuring Czech items from the Krikava collection and door prizes.

Picnic tables are available, but those who plan to attend are encouraged to bring their own chairs to sit near the dance floor. Handicap parking is available.

Due to the popularity of the activities for children last year, the group decided to bring those activities back, including a bounce house, bean bag toss, toddler basketball and fishing for prizes, the release stated.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the gate and are available at Hunter’s Bar in Myrtle, Cafourek Insurance in Albert Lea or by calling 507-383-1340. Children 12 and under are free when attending with ticketed adults

Proceeds go toward the restoration and care of the historic 110-year-old Brick Hall, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, the press release stated.

During the past year, the building  saw repairs to the roof, siding on out-buildings, brick tuck pointing and the installation of two Czech coats of arms and Czech dancer silhouettes.

The public is invited to attend the festival.
