On March 20, 1955, she was united in marriage to Leo Sukow at Oakland Lutheran Church in rural Albert Lea. To this union, two children were born: Lori in 1957 and Larry in 1960. The family lived in Richfield, Prior Lake, Isle and have called Albert Lea home since 2000.

Delores worked at National Studios doing photo and portrait work. For 20 years she worked as an underwriter for American Family Insurance. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed going shopping, dancing, listening to music and being in her flower garden. Delores enjoyed collecting things — chicken memorabilia being a favorite! She liked playing card games with family and friends, reading and enjoyed her winters in Arizona for 11 years. Most importantly, she loved her family. Family was everything to Delores, and she cherished every moment the family was together. She was lovable and kind but was not afraid to tell you her opinion!

She is preceded in death by parents Norman and Alvina Nelson; and siblings Kathlien Nelson, Elowein Nelson, Richard Nelson and Dwaine Nelson.

Delores is survived by her husband of 64 years, Leo Sukow, of Albert Lea; children Lori Sukow of Albert Lea and Larry (Shelly) Sukow of Hastings; grandson, Lukas (Jamie) Sukow, of Shakopee; siblings Lois (Jerry) Berge, Sharon (Ron) Olson, Barb Allen, LaVonne “Bonnie” (Ralph) Dougherty, Robert (Sandie) Nelson and Dennis (Donna) Nelson; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Oak Park Place and the caregivers at St. Croix Hospice for the care and compassion shown towards Delores.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
