Joseph Chicos, 1957-2019

Joseph Paul Chicos, 61, loving father, brother, uncle and friend, went to the big blue sky peacefully surrounded by his daughter, Samantha, and family on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019. A celebration of life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland. The Rev. Antony Arokiyam will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Friedrich Funeral Chapel in New Richland and again one hour prior to the service at the church Friday.

Joseph Chicos

Joseph was born Sept. 2, 1957, in Wells, the son of Charles and Ann (Stiles) Chicos. He graduated from Freeborn High School in 1976. Joseph was married to Patricia Becker and they had a daughter, Samantha Jo, and later Joseph adopted Jamie Becker.

Joseph was employed as a lumberyard worker for Lamperts in Wells, a book binder for Brown Printing in Waseca and a feed operator for Cargill in New Richland. He also worked with mink farms as well as on the farms of his father and his brothers.

In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, bowling, broomball, darts, fastpitch and slowpitch softball and watching the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed going to the Owatonna fair with his daughter, Samantha, and playing skeeball. Spending time with his family and friends was very important to him. Joseph was also a member of the Freeborn Gun Club.

Survivors include his daughter, Samantha Jo Chicos, of Kenmore, Washington; son, Jamie Becker, of Avon; brothers and sisters Jim (Renee) Chicos of New Richland, Steve (Randi) Chicos of Austin, Jane (Shahriar) Beyzavi of Jessup, Maryland, Tim (Shelly) Chicos of Owatonna, Mark (Jacqueline) Chicos of Waseca, Liz Chicos of Rochester, Andy Chicos of New Richland, Larry Chicos of New Richland, Deb Chicos of Waconia and Becky Chicos of Rochester; and brothers-in-law Bill Freytag of Rochester and Dennis Dormady of Rochester.

Joseph is preceded in death by his grandparents Thomas and Monika Chicos and Mary and Henry Stiles; parents Charles and Ann Chicos; sisters Susan Freytag and Mary Dormady; and nephews Anthony and Edwin Chicos.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Joseph will be forever loved and missed. Blessed be his memory.
