In life, one little decision can make an impact on not just you, but all those who love and care for you. Cahler A. Matthies had a loving and supporting family, and had everything going for him, but drugs took hold of his life. Addiction changed him and destroyed so much of the hope and promise in his future.
At the age of 31, Cahler quietly lost his struggle and he left his family and friends on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019.
Friends and family may gather to share memories and honor his life from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea.
Cahler was born Dec. 15, 1987, in Albert Lea, the son of Garry Matthies and Lori Anderson Matthies. Cahler graduated from Albert Lea High School with the class of 2005 and then received his commercial driver’s license from Riverland Community College. He worked at Cargill, and then drove over the road for several area trucking companies.
Cahler was the fun one — the family clown — always trying to put a smile on your face. He was the one who instigated family time and loved playing with the kids. A foodie at heart, he loved checking out restaurants and cooking up gourmet eats in the kitchen. In addition, he enjoyed all movies, video gaming, golfing and fishing. He appreciated the companionship of his sidekick and canine companion, Thor.
His loving family who supported and stood by him include his father, Garry (Sally) Matthies, of Wells; mother, Lori Matthies, of Apple Valley; siblings Randi Matthies (Kris Ellsworth) and his children Morgan, Rylee and Olivia of Hartland, Cole (Cassie) Matthies and their children Alexis, Ryanne, Lynden and Emmett of Albert Lea and Courtney (Peter) Botcher and daughter, Cora, of Eagan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Cahler was preceded in death by his grandparents Germaine and Leslie Matthies and Alyce and Allan Anderson; and nephew, Finn Ellsworth.
