MINNEAPOLIS — The Minneapolis Institute of Art has named the head of a Texas art museum as its next director.

Katherine Crawford Luber comes to the Minneapolis museum from the San Antonio Museum of Art, which she has headed since 2011. The Board of Trustees at Mia announced her appointment Wednesday.

Luber starts her new job in January 2020. She succeeds Kaywin Feldman, who left Mia in March 2019 to become director of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Mia board chair David Wilson says Luber “has an authentic, passionate vision of how art can engage, educate, and delight us all.”

A Texas native, Luber received a doctorate in art history from Bryn Mawr. She also has worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The Minneapolis museum has a collection of more than 90,000 works of art.
