Mary Barrett, 1932-2019

Funeral services for Mary E. Barrett, 87, of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Mary died surrounded by family at Pathstone Nursing Home in Mankato.

Mary Ellen (Hoehn) Barrett was born on March 29, 1932, to Julia (Frederick) and Roy Hoehn in Mankato. Mary was the youngest of three children. The family then moved to Albert Lea when Mary was in fourth grade, where she attended St. Theodore Catholic School until eighth grade. Mary graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1950.

Mary was united in marriage to Gene George Barrett on Oct. 22, 1955. Mary and Gene were blessed with five children, Diane Marie Hagen, Debra Ann (Danny) Solland, Annette Mary (Steve) Seberson, Steven Gerard (Deb) Barrett and Michele JoAnn (Bill) Henk; grandchildren Kristina Petterson, Melissa (Michael) Wandersee, Jordan Hagen, Jessica (Justin) Maalis, Mandra (Chris) Peterson, Amy (Cory) Stucky, Levi Solland (Ashley Moga), Mindy Seberson, Callen Seberson, Steven Barrett Jr. (Erin Grunzke), Chelsea Barrett, Joseph Ahearn (Emma Hopp), and Isabella Henk; great-grandchildren Rylee Petterson, Tyler Petterson, Payton Petterson, Blake Wandersee, Taytum Wandersee, Alexis Wandersee, James Maalis, Jackson Maalis, Jerett Maalis, Anna Peterson, Erin Peterson, Kali Peterson, Taylor Stucky, Cael Stucky, Xavier Westland, Myles Stucky, Archer Stucky, Kain Weber, Karter Weber, Kaydence Weber, Mason Barrett, Korie Barrett, Austen Barrett and Ian Seberson.

Mary worked at various places over the years, including Consolidated Foods, Tradehome Shoes, Montgomery Wards, Johnson Floral and Herbergers, and cleaned homes for many people.

Over the years, Mary loved to garden and tend to her many flower gardens. Prior to retirement, Mary also enjoyed line-dancing. After Mary’s husband, Gene, passed in 2004, Mary found a new love, her beloved cocker spaniel, Lewey. When Mary was 85, she moved to Pathstone in Mankato and sadly had to leave Lewey to a new owner. Mary still cherished Lewey and had his pictures in her new apartment at Pathstone. Mary met many new friends while at Pathstone and cherished them dearly.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents Roy and Julia Hoehn; brother, Leroy Hoehn and his first wife, Vera Hoehn, and second wife, Jean Hoehn; sister, Donna Yost, and her husband, Ray Yost; great-granddaughter, Taytum Wandersee; and great-grandson Myles Stucky.
