First Lutheran Church Women

First Lutheran Church Women met at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 11 in Bethany Hall with prelude music provided by Joan Holt. Bonnie Schneider, co-president, welcomed members and guests. Devotions were given by Donna Ludtke. She read a devotion titled “Priceless” from the daily devotional book, “Christ In Our Home,” based on Psalm 49 verses 1-12, in which Christians recognize that their life’s experiences are priceless. God chose to come among us — Christians are reminded to go in peace and to serve the Lord.

Schneider led the group in reading the First Lutheran Church Women purpose statement.

Donna Ludtke and Joyce Fredin presented the program, “History of the Ladies Aid and Mission Society.”

Hazel Senske and Fredin read a history of the church — the merge of Synod and Trinity Lutheran Churches on Sept. 9, 1919, to become First Lutheran Church and a history of the ladies aid and mission society. The readings reflected on the work done by the pioneer women in the church — how they conducted their meetings and all the work and money contributed to the building of the church, missions and benevolences. The women shared some anecdotes from these early years.

Fredin then led a discussion of shared remembrances from the attending members based on a set of questions pertaining to their membership history in the church. Many ladies contributed fond memories of their church years and experiences. She asked for favorite hymns the women sang as a group.

Business meeting: Schneider called the business meeting to order. The secretary’s minutes from the Aug. 14, 2019, meeting were approved as printed by a motion from Jo Hanson and second by Lorraine Bakken. Cindy Gandrud, treasurer, presented the treasurer’s report. Corresponding Secretary Bonnie Trampel, read an invitation from KJLY Christian Radio for a women’s conference entitled “Woman Interrupted,” which will be on April 25 at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. There was an invitation to the Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge Rochester Gala. The Ames Center in Burnsville sent a flyer with entertainment events and Global Health Ministries sent a newsletter.

Schneider set Oct. 29 through Oct. 31 as the dates for the lefse bake. Diane Damerow announced cookbooks were for sale.

Old business: Circle roll call was taken. Circle 35 had the highest percentage of members in attendance at 62%. Circle 4 was second with 41% in attendance. Both circles received a prize.

Following the business meeting, the group sang the hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” during which the offering was received.

Schneider gave the Offering Prayer and thanked the ushers Marge LaFrance and Jo Hanson; greeters Damerow, Fredin, Ludtke, and Bonnie Trampel; hostesses Co-Chairwomen Tep Christensen and LaFrance and their committee of Marion Bergemann, Damerow, and Judy Mullen.

Caring and Sharing: Chairwomen Helen Lovik and Arlis Smith and their committee served one funeral in August.

The group read “Beatitudes for Friends of the Aged” and observed a moment of silence in memory of all those who lost lives on Sept. 11, 2001, followed by a prayer given by Hanson.

The meeting closed with the Table Prayer and the Lord’s Prayer.
