The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Freeborn County and much of south-central Minnesota from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning.

According to the weather agency, total snow accumulations of 6 or more inches are possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph. The combination could bring areas of blowing snow, impacting travel significantly through Wednesday morning.

Snow is expected to develop across southern Minnesota late Tuesday afternoon and spread northeastward across central Minnesota and western Wisconsin Tuesday night.

Snow will end from west to east Wednesday morning, but blowing snow could continue into the afternoon.

The Weather Service warns travel could be difficult, with the potential for hazardous conditions impacting holiday travel. Patchy, blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
