Ramona Petersen, 1932-2019

Ramona Elaine Petersen, 87, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Grand Arbor Chapel. The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Anderson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Ramona “Mona” Elaine (Myran) Petersen was born Jan. 19, 1932, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Richard N. Myran and Augusta O. (Hanson) Myran. She was baptized and confirmed at West Freeborn Church in Manchester.

Mona graduated from Albert Lea High School in the class of 1949. Following graduation she worked as a medical secretary in Albert Lea.

Mona married Robert Petersen on July 6, 1952. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Mona was a tireless supporter of her children with their education, horses and athletics. Mona and Bob vacationed with their children every summer on Clitherall Lake in Battle Lake, a tradition that has continued to this day with their children and grandchildren.

She enjoyed and was famous for her cooking and baking. Mona was by Bob’s side when he started his own electrical business in 1967, working as the business administrator. She continued to be by his side after Bob suffered a disabling stroke in 1984. Mona lovingly cared for him until his death in 2005, living a full life with their family.

Mona and Bob moved to Alexandria in May 1998 and joined Bethesda Lutheran Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister-in-law, Verna Helland, of Albert Lea; and brothers-in-law Mike Seedorf of Albert Lea, LeRoy Roberts and Omer Helland of Albert Lea.

Mona is survived by her children Brenda and Matthew Callstrom of Rochester, Jan and Bruce Leland of Alexandria, Richard Petersen of Alexandria and Mary Petersen of Alexandria; grandchildren Molly (Clarke) Comer of Alexandria, Maggie (Joey) Sisser of Alexandria, Joe Callstrom of Rochester, Peter Callstrom of Roseville, Tyler Petersen of New York and Chelsea Petersen of Burnsville; sister, Sonja (Duane) Troe, of Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Frances Roberts, of Albert Lea; and nieces and nephews.

Memorials are preferred to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or a memorial of the donor’s choice.
