Letter: GOP Party sure has changed

The Democratic Party is so lucky to have a champion like Adam Shiff at the Congressional level, plus our local Democratic Farmer Labor Party is so very fortunate to have Jennifer Vogt-Erickson writing it all down for us to see. Wow!

After reading recent GOP letters to the editor, it becomes quite clear that Dan Froomkin, the editor of Press Watch, has it correct. It appears our local GOP leadership continues their self-imposed moral and ethical collapse.

Those local GOP letters to the editor clearly set out what Walter Einenkel, a former government ethics chief, outlines as the 39 ways the GOP is attempting to destroy democracy. Both the Froomkin and Einenkel articles are well-informed.

Who would have guessed just a few short years ago that our local GOP leadership would be embracing the Communist Party’s mastermind of propaganda: Putin. The local GOP does not care that Putin continues to attack Democracies around the world for the sole purpose of collapsing the ideas of democracy like FDR’s New Deal and LBJ’s Great Society programs.

It is so laughable when GOP writers believe they can get us to support the guy who brags that he can walk up to women and grab her by her crotch.  Or so laughable when GOP leadership writes from the beginning us progressives advocated for impeachment when the answer is not just yes but why were you not in favor of impeachment from the very beginning?

Then there is the constant local GOP racist attacks on immigrants — like when one of the local GOP leaders wrote around county fair time that physically/forcibly separating minors from their parents and then arresting them is for their protection from sex trafficking. No, it is simply racism.

GOP leaders of the past would never have embraced Putin, and certainly they all would have recognized our current climate crisis. Essentially, today’s GOP Party is anything but conservative.  The true conservatives are under the DFL tent. These true conservatives did not drink the Kool-Aid.
