The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Albert Lea and much of the surrounding area as mixed precipitation is expected to begin overnight.

The advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to noon Saturday as a powerful winter storm will bring snow, ice and rain to Minnesota through Monday.

The weather agency states for Albert Lea, total sleet accumulations of up to a half an inch are expected with ice accumulations of up to two-tenths of an inch possible.

The precipitation will lead to slippery road conditions. The freezing precipitation is expected to change over to rain Saturday afternoon.

Snow is possible late on Sunday into Monday as colder air arrives.

The weather agency states there is still a fair amount of uncertainty because of the extent of warm air with the weather system, which will affect precipitation types and snow and ice amounts.

People are advised to slow down and use caution while driving. Information about road conditions can be found online at www.511mn.org.
