Betty Stolaas, 1940-2020

Funeral services for Betty J. Stolaas will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with the Rev. John Holt officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. and continue until the time of the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Betty passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Community-The Woodlands in Albert Lea. She was 79 years old.

Betty Jean (Meyer) Stolaas was born March 19, 1940, in Faribault County to parents Norbert and Alvesta (Simon) Meyer. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1958. On June 4, 1960, she was united in marriage to Bruce Stolaas; the couple would later divorce.

In her free time Betty enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and playing cards. Most importantly, spending time with her family was at the top of her list! As her family grew, she enjoyed helping with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty would often reminisce about her younger years working at A&W in Albert Lea, NW Bell and later at Naeve Hospital in dietary.

She is preceded in death by both parents, Norbert and Alvesta Meyer; a grandson in infancy, Scott Allan Stolaas II; brother, David Meyer; sister, Judy Wangsness; and a nephew, David Meyer Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children Robin (Tom) Evenson, Kevin (Kelly) Stolaas, Scott (Tammy) Stolaas and Kelli Stolaas; grandchildren Rakshita Evenson, Aruna Evenson, Carissa Anderson, Bianca Stolaas, Brandi Stolaas, Amber (Pat) Nechanicky, Scottie Stolaas, Seth (Brittany) Stolaas, Amanda (Kamel) Bowman, Brittany (fiance, Brody Nordland) Springborg and Courtney (Justin) Drescher; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Stensrud; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
