For the first time this season, the Lake Mills wrestling team claimed a tournament title.

The Bulldogs won four consecutive duals Saturday to win the Hampton Duals.

In the opener, the team squared off against East Buchanan and steamrolled to a 62-12 victory. The host team was the next opponent and ended up being the top two teams of the tournament. Lake Mills won the battle of the Bulldogs, taking care of Hampton-Dumont-CAL 43-24.

“Our kids wrestled very well in this dual,” said head coach Alex Brandenburg. “It was nice to pick up a lot of bonus points and not give up many bonus points in the matches we lost.”

The squad did not have much time to enjoy the win, as it had to turn around and face another strong team out of the North Central Conference, Iowa Falls-Alden. Lake Mills did not let its performance drop and defeated the Cadets 43-27.

“This is the dual which concerned me the most coming into the day,” Brandenburg said. “They have several ranked kids and are strong at many of the weights that we are.”

The Bulldogs finished the day by taking it to Belmond-Klemme, 75-6.

“We wrestled the two most complete duals of the season by excelling in bonus point margin,” Brandenburg said. “It was nice to have a great performance after one of our worst the other night in Forest City.”

The tournament also gives individual weight honors. Champions of their respective weight classes from Lake Mills were Kinser Hanson, Jack Ramaker, Jimmy Gallardo, Elijah Wagner, Ashten Love and Drake Harnish. Second place finishers included: Geraldo Vazquez, Casey Hanson and Brayden Lindeman.
