SAUK CENTRE — Authorities said a 27-year-old man arrested after a standoff in Sauk Centre fired a gun at an armored vehicle carrying SWAT officers.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said investigators determined the shot hit the armored vehicle near the driver’s side door as it approached the home Sunday. The vehicle was occupied by multiple SWAT officers when it was fired upon, but no officers were hurt.
Officers responded to the home Sunday morning after a woman called and said her husband had assaulted her.
Authorities said the suspect was making threatening statements and had a 9-year-old child in the residence.
The child was released about noon as police continued to negotiate with the suspect, who fired one shot out of the residence.
He eventually surrendered Sunday afternoon and was booked into the Stearns County Jail. Officers recovered a loaded handgun and found a spent casing in the kitchen.
Police are recommending charges of making terroristic threats, second-degree assault and domestic assault.
