National Weather Service issues winter storm warning
Freeborn County and the surrounding area are under a winter storm warning Friday morning through Saturday night as heavy snow is expected.
Moderate to heavy snow will develop across western Minnesota Friday morning and move through eastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin early Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow will taper off Friday night but northwest winds will increase on Saturday, leading to blowing and drifting snow.
Falling temperatures will also lead to icy roads. A blizzard warning could be likely for Saturday.
The Weather Service is calling for snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches on Friday with winds gusting as high as 45 mph on Saturday.
The storm could lead to difficult travel and snow-covered roads.
People are advised to keep an extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency.
The storm warning is in effect from 8 a.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday.
