Nearing the end of the regular season, the Albert Lea wrestling team was hoping to climb in the section standings Monday night on the road against Rochester Mayo.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, they were unable to keep the Spartans from getting bonus-point wins in multiple weight classes, falling 42-27.

In the first matchup of the night, seventh grader Nick Korman lost a 9-4 decision at 106 pounds. At 113 pounds, freshman Aivin Wasmoen got the Tigers their first win of the night, defeating his opponent via a 20-7 major decision.

Ericksmoen’s opponent is the No. 4-ranked wrestler at 132 pounds.

One of Albert Lea’s ranked wrestlers, No. 6-ranked 132-pounder Cameron Davis, got a forfeit win at 138 pounds. However, he was followed by sophomore Mason Drescher taking a pinfall loss at 145 pounds.

Freshman and No. 3-ranked Cole Glazier won a closely contested match over Rochester Mayo’s Cade Sheehan at 152 pounds. Sheehan is ranked No. 5 at 145 pounds.

The Tigers went on to get another two consecutive wins — one from sophomore Henry Eggum, with a 11-2 major decision at 160 pounds, and one from No. 4-ranked 152-pounder Caleb Talamantes at 170 pounds with a fall in the second period.

Sophomores Kadin Indrelie and Adam Semple both lost their matches at 182 pounds and 195 pounds, respectively. Both fell victim to a second-period fall.

The Tigers fall to 9-8 in dual action this season and will be back on the mat Thursday, when they travel to Northfield to take on the Raiders in the regular season finale.
