Letter: Get involved at the DFL caucus
Published 9:00 pm Wednesday, February 19, 2020
The Freeborn County DFL caucus will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Union Center, 1407 State Highway 13. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This year we will not be voting for president at the caucus. You will be voting for president at the primary election, which will be held March 3.
At the caucus you can meet with the people from your precinct. You will be able to submit a resolution if you would like. You can get the form on the internet — just search Minnesota DFL Resolution Form. There is a fillable form you can use.
Please review the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor ongoing platform before submitting a resolution. Your resolution may already be part of the ongoing platform. If your resolution is already part of the platform, then you should come up with a different resolution.
Another task at the caucus is electing delegates from each precinct. Freeborn County has 41 precincts. Each precinct has a predetermined amount of delegates. For example, Ward 6 has 13 delegates. Thirteen people can be elected a delegate from Ward 6. These delegates can go on to the Freeborn County convention, and the Senate District 27 convention. They will be voting on resolutions that will be sent on to the State of Minnesota DFL convention. They will also be voting on endorsing any candidates.
If you ca not attend the caucus, you can fill out a non attendee form stating that you cannot attend the caucus; however, you would like to run for a delegate position or other office. The positions are stated on the form. You have to submit this form by Saturday to the Party Chairwoman Julie Ackland, 26154 State Highway 13, Albert Lea, MN 56007. You could also have a friend bring your non attendee form to caucus night. We will have our regular DFL meeting Thursday at the Union Center at 7 p.m. this week. You can attend that if you have any questions.
