This concert is a special concert, since it will celebrate leaping into March, which has been designated as Music in Our Schools Month by the National Association for Music Education, the release stated. This year’s theme is “Music Changes Lives.”

Students involved with music in Albert Lea are highly involved in many other school activities, including sports, mock trial, drama, robotics, National Honor Society, and numerous other clubs and organizations, according to the release.

About 40 members of the choirs participated in a solo and ensemble contest in late January. The Celebr8 and Tiger choir students will travel to Chanhassen Dinner Theatre to see a professional production of “The Music Man” in late March. The varsity choir went to the Ordway to see a production from Minnesota Opera, and members of the concert choir will depart for a short choir tour to Minneapolis to see a Broadway production of “Anastasia,” visit St Paul Cathedral and do a choral exchange with students from Faribault High School.

This spring, make plans to attend a community celebration of song in partnership with VocalEssence from Minneapolis, the release stated. They will present an evening concert in Albert Lea on May 2 entitled “Get Minnesota Singing,” where everyone gets to sing along and go home with a newly compiled songbook.

Choir students serve as positive community role models and ambassadors for Albert Lea wherever they perform, according to the press release, and it encouraged people to come enjoy the music.
