1. Benefits for Arik Matson

Bleachers Sports Bar & Grill will host a benefit for injured Waseca Officer Arik Matson at 5 p.m. Saturday. Beer will be sold at $2 per glass, with an open donation. All proceeds benefit the Matson family.

A benefit auction for Matson will also be on Saturday at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1642 in Waseca. The event will include a chilli feed beginning at 5 p.m. and a live and silent auction at 7 p.m., featuring cash, gift certificates and various merchandise. For donations, call 507-835-1811 or 507-339-1272. All proceeds from the event will go to the Matson family.

2. Bingo

The Geneva Cancer Run will host its first annual designer purse and Harley-Davidson bingo Saturday at Geneva Community Center. Tickets are available for $30 pre-sale from Geneva Bar & Grill or $40 at the door. Geneva Bar & Grill also will offer paninis, bloody Marys and apparel.

 

3. Scottish music

Northfield native Laura MacKenzie will present a program of traditional Scottish music inspired by a modern series of novels from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the City Council Chambers, 211 E. Clark St. The celebrated multi-instrumentalist will perform with an impressive collection of instruments to include concertina and different varieties of wooden flute, whistle and bagpipe, in addition to her voice.

4. The Met: Live in HD

This Saturday, the Metropolitan Opera presents Richard Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” at Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. The opera, which depicts the tale of a cursed sea captain doomed to sail the open ocean for eternity, will begin at 11:55 a.m. and runs approximately two and a half hours. Tickets may be purchased at the box office one hour prior to the opera for $20. Students showing a current school ID will be given a ticket by the opera committee. 

 

5. Instant pot basics cooking class

Learn how to use your instant pot from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Northbridge Mall. Stop by the cooking class to prepare your Sunday night dinner and sample prepared meals.
