Albert Lea-Austin game, all winter sports tournaments canceled
Spring sports may practice, but no competition between schools through April 6
The Minnesota State High School League is immediately canceling the girls’ basketball state tournament, and all boys’ basketball section and state tournaments have been canceled — including tonight’s section championship between Albert Lea and Austin, according to a press release.
In addition, section speech tournament events for the week of March 15 through March 21 have been postponed indefinitely.
Until April 6, participation in spring sports and activities is limited to practice and tryouts only. Scrimmages, competitions, practices, training sessions or participation with other school programs is not allowed, the league stated in a second press release.
School administration at their discretion may place more restrictive limitations on practice and participation, the release stated.
As COVID-19 is rapidly evolving, the MSHSL will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as necessary.
