Wethington named to USCHO rookie team

University of Minnesota freshman defensemen Madeline Wethington has been named to the USCHO All-Rookie Team, U.S. College Hockey Online announced this week.
Along with earning a place on the USCHO All-Rookie Team, Wethington was named the WCHA Rookie of the Year and earned a place on the All-WCHA Rookie Team. The Edina native recorded 16 points as one of 15 Gophers to play in all 36 games this season. She ranked fourth on the team with 40 blocked shots and led WCHA rookies with four game-winning goals, +18 plus/minus rating and 40 blocked shots.
Wethington made her college debut and scored her first career goal when she tallied the game winner in the team’s season opening 2-0 win over Colgate. She had a career high three assists in the Gophers’ series sweep over Bemidji State. Wethington collected two WCHA Rookie of the Week awards as well.
