After seeing a steady rise in lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in recent weeks, Freeborn County has now gone five days without a new confirmed case, according to the Minnesota Department of Health on Friday.
The state department said the county still has had 33 cases confirmed.
Of that total, 21 cases are out of isolation, according to the Freeborn County Public Health Department.
“Hopefully we can keep this trend up for a while,” a press release stated from the county health department.
Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea continues to conduct testing at Health Reach in a drive-thru site and are testing the same numbers of people it has in the last few weeks.
Cases increased Friday by one in both Mower and Steele counties, moving their total cases to 28 and 11, respectively. Faribault County remains at four cases and Waseca County at three.
Total positive cases across the state increased to 3,185 an increase of 243 cases from the day prior.
Of that total, 1,594 no longer need to be in isolation, and 278 are hospitalized, including 111 in intensive care.
Deaths increased to 221, an increase in 21 deaths.
According to the department, the highest number of cases have been reported in Hennepin County with 1,200 cases, followed by Nobles County, with 258 cases — an increase in 62 cases from the day before. Many of the cases there have been tied to an outbreak at a pork processing plant.
Ramsey and Olmsted counties have 247 and 219 cases respectively.
Of the 221 deaths statewide, 138 have taken place in Hennepin County.
The Minnesota Department of Health said 34% of cases have been 20 to 44 years of age, with the next highest percentages for age groups of 45 to 64 years old and 65-plus years old.
People who have had COVID-19 have ranged in age from 4 weeks to 109 years. The median age is 53, with the median hospitalized age at 64, though the hospitalized cases have ranged in age from 19 to 95 years.
The state department indicated 53,787 tests have been completed, including 10,954 through the department’s public health lab and 42,833 through external laboratories.
