Freeborn County sees new COVID-19 case after stretch with no new cases

After eight days without a new lab-confirmed case of COVID-19, Freeborn County saw one new case reported on Tuesday, increasing the county’s total to 34, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

The new patient is in their 50s, the Freeborn County Public Health Department stated.
Of the cases in the county, 23 have recovered and are out of isolation.
One new case was also reported in Waseca County, moving its total cases to four.
Numbers remained the same in Mower County at 28 cases, Faribault County at 4, and Steele County at 14.
Confirmed COVID-19 cases around the state grew to 4,181, an increase in 365 cases. State officials have said the cases are likely to increase as additional testing ramps up across the state. Deaths increased to 301, up 15 from the previous day.
Of the total cases statewide, 1,912 no longer need to be in isolation, and 314 are hospitalized, including 120 in intensive care.
According to the department, the highest number of cases have been reported in Hennepin County with 1,524 cases, followed by Nobles County, with 477 cases.
Ramsey and Olmsted counties have 317 and 251 cases, respectively.
Of the 301 deaths statewide, 193 have taken place in Hennepin County.
The Minnesota Department of Health said 24% of cases have been in people 70 or older. The next highest age group is 30 to 39 and 50 to 59, both at 16%.
People who have had COVID-19 have ranged in age from 4 weeks to 109 years. The median age is 51, with the median hospitalized age at 63, though the hospitalized cases have ranged in age from 4 weeks to 102 years.
The state department indicated 63,829 tests have been completed, including 11,642 through the department’s public health lab and 52,187 through external laboratories.
