Area counties see additional COVID-19 cases

Area counties saw continued new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, according to daily updates from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Freeborn County had four new cases, and has now had 97 cases. Mower County had 18 new cases, increasing its total to 206.

Steele County had three new cases and has now had 144 cases, and Faribault County had one, pushing its total to 13. Waseca County did not report any new cases.

Statewide, there were 652 new cases reported, increasing the total across the state to 21,960.

Eighteen new deaths were reported, increasing that number to 899. Of the deaths, 732 were people in long-term care or assisted living facilities. The new deaths were reported in Chippewa, Clay, Dakota, Goodhue, Hennepin, Nicollet and Ramsey counties.

Of the total positive cases, 15,523 no longer need to be in isolation, and 570 are hospitalized, including 258 in intensive care.

The state department said 209,898 tests have been completed, including 22,097 through the state public health lab and 187,801 through external laboratories.

Statewide, the highest number of cases has been reported in Hennepin County with 7,421 cases and 549 deaths.

The next highest case totals are in Ramsey County with 2,551 cases and Stearns County with 1,959 cases.

Olmsted County has had 570 cases, and Rice County has had 396.
