A drive through visitation for Carla Lunning will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service: 2210 E. Main St., Albert Lea, MN 56007. Please drive in the main entrance. From there you will be guided to the viewing area, where you will be able to speak to family and pay respects to Carla, all from a safe distance. All visitors must stay in their vehicles at all times. A private graveside service will be livestreamed on the Bonnerup Funeral Service website (www.bonnerupfuneralservice.com) around 2 p.m. May 29 with Rev. John Mitchem officiating. Carla passed away peacefully in her sleep Saturday, May 16 , 2020, at Good Samaritan Society of Albert Lea. She was 65 years old. 

Carla was born on Nov. 1, 1954, in Albert Lea. She attended Albert Lea High School and graduated in 1973. She attended Albert Lea Area Vocational-Technical Institute from 1973 to 1976, studying clerical and accounting. She was married to Darrell B. Lunning on June 11, 1977, at United Methodist Church. Carla was confirmed at United Methodist Church and as a member, enjoyed singing in the choir and performing solos or duets with her husband at many church events. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She had many cashier service jobs around Albert Lea, including Shell, Texaco and Food n Fuel. She enjoyed going to live concerts of her favorite country music artists and collecting T-shirts. Her hobbies were collecting angels and spending time completing various puzzles and crosswords. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and fishing with her husband, nieces and nephews.

She loved her vacations with Darrell to Rogers, Arkansas. Shortly before she moved to Good Samaritan Society she got to experience her trip of a lifetime: flying to Alaska to visit her brother, spending a week enjoying the beauty of Alaska and her dream of seeing the orca whales in the wild.

Carla is survived by her mother, Margaret Tusen, of Albert Lea; brothers Dalmar “Butch” (Vicki) Johnson of Wasilla, Alaska, and Kevin (Lugene Anderson) Johnson of Albert Lea; nieces and nephews Barbara (Philip Becker) Decker of Brooklyn Park, Veronica (Jon) Boley of Albert Lea, Justin (Mary Helms) Johnson of Albert Lea, Cassie (Ryan Doyle) Johnson of Hartland, Amber (Jon) Holdeman of Geneva and Wade (Misty) Johnson Blooming Prairie; and many great-nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell Lunning; sister, Caryn Decker; stepfather, Carl Tusen; father, Dale Johnson; and her grandparents, many aunts and uncles, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
