ST. PAUL — Minnesota continues to turn the dial on easing restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

State residents will once again be able to access the majority of driver and vehicle services starting Tuesday. But state officials warn the stations will look different because of measures to protect the health of customers and staff.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services division has a plan to administer road tests that were cancelled during the governor’s stay-at-home order and those whose driver’s license or identification card expired during that time.

The department is opening 16 exam stations statewide beginning May 19. Officials will resume class D road tests on May 26.

Those who had their appointments canceled during the stay-at-home order will be given priority.

While restrictions ease, the number of coronavirus cases continues to rise. The Minnesota Department of Health on Friday reported 20 more COVID-19 deaths raising Minnesota’s death toll to 683 and more than 800 additional confirmed cases raising the total count to 14,240.
