Ernest Dohmeier, 1925-2020

Ernest Henry Dohmeier was born June 24, 1925, in Max, North Dakota, the son of the Rev. Henry and Helen (Schlachtenhaufen) Dohmeier. He attended District 124 School, then attended Alden High School. In his senior year, he was drafted into the United States Navy during World War II. After service to his country, he attended Wartburg College and later attended Dunwoody School for Electronics. He specialized in repair, service and sales of televisions. He opened Dohmeier TV Shop in Alden.

On Sept. 21, 1958, he married Helen Richter at Concordia Lutheran Church, Pickerel Lake. Ernie and Helen made their home in Conger. Ernie also was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. Ernie was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, serving on the council and various committees. He was an active member of the Gideon organization and enjoyed sharing God’s word. Ernie enjoyed eating out, traveling, family reunions and gatherings, fishing, gardening, mowing the lawn, wood working and fixing whatever needed to be fixed. He and his father assembled an electronic organ, which was a gift to his mother.

Ernie died peacefully Monday, May 11, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Community-The Woodlands on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea. He was 94.

Ernie is survived by brothers Clemens Dohmeier, Gerhardt Dohmeier and Richard (Juanita) Dohmeier; sisters Evelyn Schock and Gertrude Whitmire; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by both parents, the Rev. Henry and Helen Dohmeier; wife, Helen Dohmeier; sisters Dorothy (Elmer) Wittmer and Paula (Alfred) Sprenger; brother, Ervin (Loretta) Dohmeier; sisters-in-law Geraldine Dohmeier and Grace Dohmeier; and brothers-in-law Harold Whitmire and Jewell Schock.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. John’s, Hidden Creek Estates and Mayo Hospice for the care given to Ernie these past years.

Ernie’s family will hold a private graveside service, which will be livestreamed from the Bonnerup Funeral Service website around 2 p.m. Friday. A drive-thru visitation will take place beginning at 1 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran Pickerel Lake Cemetery until private services start at 2 p.m. Upon arrival, stay in your vehicles and drive through the cemetery, where the family will greet you.
