One new lab-confirmed COVID-19 case was reported in Freeborn County and two were reported in Steele County on Friday, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

Freeborn County now has had 35 cases, and Steele County has had 18. Numbers remained the same in other area counties: Mower County, 28; Faribault County, 5; and Waseca County, 4.

The Freeborn County Public Health Department stated the county’s new case was a person in their 60s. Of the county’s total cases, 23 are recovered and out of isolation.

Statewide, total positive cases grew by 594 to 5,730. Of the total cases, 2,282 people have recovered and no longer need isolation, and 371 people have died, an increase in 28 from the previous day.

The Minnesota Department of Health stated 369 people are hospitalized as of today, including 118 in intensive care.

The average age of hospitalized cases is 62, though ages have ranged from an infant less than 1 month old to a person 102 years of age.

The state department states 20% of all lab-confirmed positive cases have been 70 or older. The next highest age group, representing 18% of cases, has been 30 to 39 years of age. People ages 70 and older have accounted for 82% of the deaths.

The highest number of overall cases have been reported in Hennepin County, with 1,829 cases and 243 deaths, followed by Nobles County, with 866 cases and one death.

Olmsted County has had 269 cases, eight of which have died.

The department stated 74,829 tests have been completed, including 12,592 through the Minnesota Department of Health’s public health lab and 62,237 through external laboratories.
