Principal’s Corner by Nick Sofio

May 4 marks the start of Teacher Appreciation Week. Within our schools, our parent teacher organizations, students and families typically find unique and creative ways to express appreciation to teachers for the positive impact they have on our students. As we have transitioned to a distance learning format due to COVID-19, my admiration and appreciation for our teachers has grown exponentially.

I appreciate our Lakeview teachers for the can-do mindset you have displayed throughout the year, and especially since our shift to distance learning. The way in which you teach, engage and support students significantly changed in March. You embraced this new challenge with an incredible amount of energy, passion, focus and flexibility while keeping the unique needs of each of your students at the forefront of your thoughts. Thank you for your commitment to ensuring our students have the best distance learning opportunities available to them.

I appreciate our Lakeview teachers for your commitment with keeping our students connected with our school and each other. You have supported students and families in ways that you would have never imagined at the beginning of the school year. You have made it a priority to provide our students with the opportunity to connect with you and their classmates through video chats. In the absence of a physical classroom, thank you for creatively providing a classroom for our students to stay close with each other despite their physical distance.

I appreciate our Lakeview teachers for your continued support of each other and making Lakeview an amazing place to be each day. As we have navigated through a new way of working with our students, you have remained a constant source of encouragement, humor and inspiration for each other. In a short amount of time, you needed to learn and adapt to meet the changes to our learning environment and you could not have done this successfully without the support you provided each other. Thank you for caring for and looking out for each other.

If you have time this week, please take some time to reach out to a teacher in your life to share your appreciation.
