Crews are in the middle of painting the water tower in northern Albert Lea near Brookside with work expected to be completed in late June.

Albert Lea Director of Public Works Steven Jahnke said the city contracted with Classic Protective Coatings Inc. of Menomonie, Wisconsin, for about $490,000 for the project.

Bolton & Menk Inc. out of Mankato has been the consultant for the project.

When crews are working on the project, motorists and pedestrians in the area can expect to see a long canopy pulled down around the tower. The canopy is removed when work is not in place.

Jahnke said the tower was last painted in 1999.

When it is completed, it will be white and feature the city of Albert Lea logo.
