Lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in Freeborn County with the second day of double digit increases in cases.

The county reported 17 new cases, bringing the county’s total cumulative cases to 159 since the beginning of the pandemic. One of the new cases is hospitalized.

The Freeborn County Public Health Department stated the new cases include the following:

• One person between the ages of 10 to 20

• Four people in their 20s

• Four people in their 30s

• Four people in their 40s

• Three people in their 50s

• One person in their 70s.

The increase in cases follows 12 new cases reported Thursday.

The health department stated five more people are now out of isolation, bringing the total out of isolation to 94.

Mower County reported another 40 new cases on Friday, bringing its total to 446. Faribault and Waseca counties each had two new cases, and Steele County had three.

Statewide, there were 712 newly reported cases on Friday, bringing the total cumulative positive cases across the state to 26,980, according to the Minnesota Department of Health.

There were 33 newly reported deaths from Anoka, Clay, Crow Wing, Dakota, Hennepin, Lyon, Otter Tail, Ramsey, Swift and Washington counties. Six of the deaths were from people in their 50s and 60s, while the remainder were age 70 or older.

The death count now is at 1,148, with 922 of those deaths from people who resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.

Out of all of the patients across the state, 21,864 no longer need to be in isolation, and 478 are hospitalized, including 220 in intensive care.
