Daily COVID-19 update: 3 area counties see new cases

One new lab-confirmed COVID-19 case was reported in Freeborn County on Tuesday, according to the daily update provided by the Minnesota Department of Health.

The Freeborn County Public Health Department said Monday two cases that were added to the county’s totals that day were expected to be moved to another county. The county now has had 281 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Nine new cases were reported in Mower County, increasing the county’s total to 921, and one new case was reported in Steele County, increasing the county’s total to 215. No new cases were reported in Faribault or Waseca counties, which have had 53 and 57 cases, respectively.

Statewide, 444 new cases were reported, increasing the state’s total cumulative cases to 36,303. Of that number, 31,601 are out of isolation.

The Minnesota Department of Health reported six new deaths from Hennepin, Mille Lacs and Rice counties. Of the six deaths, two were residents of long-term care or assisted living facilities and three lived in a private residence.

The state’s total death count is 1,441, of which 1,131 resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities.

The department stated 270 people are hospitalized, including 136 in intensive care.
