Grace Ann Varland, 79, of Albert Lea, MN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Oak Park Place in Albert Lea. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Faith Baptist Church of Albert Lea. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Lakewood Cemetery.

Grace Ann Varland

Grace was born on January 27, 1941 to Andrew and Agnes Bauer. Grace taught for the Albert Lea School for approximately eight years prior to marrying Darrel Varland on August 7, 1976. She taught the second grade for over thirty years prior to retiring in the early 2000s. While working full time as an educator, Grace attended night school in Mankato and received her master’s degree in Education. She also volunteered her time and taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church for many years. Grace will always be remembered for as a dedicated educator and loving wife.

Grace is survived by her husband of 44 years, Darrel; sisters, Marj (Larry) Magnuson, Carolyn (Larry) Carlson; one brother, Clarence (Ruth) Bauer; and many loving nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends and her two dogs.

Grace is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence Bauer; and nephew, Chad Brian Carlson.

A special thanks to the staff at Oak Park Place for the loving care they showed Grace for the two years she resided there.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Faith Baptist Church of Albert Lea.
