A smaller rise in new lab-confirmed in COVID-19 cases was reported statewide Tuesday, though new cases are still being reported in area counties, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Health.

Freeborn County had five new lab-confirmed cases and has now had 130 cases. Of the county’s total cases, 85 are out of isolation and recovering from their illness, according to the Freeborn County Public Health Department.

The new cases included one person in their 20s, one in their 30s, one in their 40s and one in their 50s. There is one person the county doesn’t have any information on yet.

There are currently no people from the county hospitalized.

Faribault County had one new case and has had 20 cases, and Mower County had nine new cases and has had 354 cases. Steele County reported three new cases, increasing its total to 164. Waseca County did not report any new cases and sits at 26 cases.

There were 310 new cases statewide, increasing the total cumulative positive cases to 25,508. Of that number, 20,381 no longer need to be in isolation.

There were also 22 newly reported deaths of residents from Anoka, Clay, Dakota, Hennepin, Lyon, Olmsted and Ramsey counties.

The new deaths increased the statewide deaths to 1,072, of which 866 are among cases who resided in long-term care or assisted living facilities. The department said 537 people were hospitalized, including 248 in intensive care, a decrease from the day prior.

The state department said 3,155 tests were completed Monday. Due to civil unrest in St. Paul and surrounding areas, the Minnesota Department of Health’s public health lab was closed from May 30 through June 1.
