For the second consecutive season, the Albert Lea girls hockey team will represent Section 1A in the state hockey tournament after a come-from-behind win over Dodge County in the section final.

The Tigers won the matchup in a 3-2 overtime barnburner.

It was a quiet first period with neither team being able to bust open the scoring with the first goal of the game. The Tigers got off just one shot on goal in the period, compared to 10 by the Wildcats. However, Jayda Moyer was strong in the goal to keep the Tigers in it.

10 minutes into the second period the Tigers drew first blood as Hanna  Austinson scored an even-strength goal. However, just over two minutes later Dodge County evened the score with a power play goal.

With the score knotted at 1-1 heading into the third period, the Wildcats took the lead with less than seven minutes remaining in regulation. Liley Steven would not let the Tigers season come to a close just yet, however, evening the game once again just 42 seconds of gameplay later.

Steven scored the goal in the 10th minute and was assisted by Sydney Kolker.

The final horn of regulation sounded with the score tied at two goals a piece.

Three minutes into the overtime period, Dodge County was called for a minor penalty which opened the door for the Tigers on one last power play.

Olivia Ellsworth capitalized on the opportunity, scoring a goal in the waning seconds of the power play that would put the Tigers over the top and into the state tournament. Austinson assisted on the goal.

Moyer totaled 28 saves on the night as the Tigers climbed to 18-7-1 on the season.

The girls hockey tournament starts on Wednesday, but seeding and game times have yet to be determined as of publication time.
