The Women Veterans of Freeborn County on Friday dedicated a memorial bench in honor of U.S. Air Force veteran Ruth Perry.

Perry served 20 years in the Air Force before spending another 20 years with the Social Security Administration. After that, she was busy volunteering within the community and American Legion Post 56.

“She helped her fellow veterans and friends in every way possible, always with a smile on her face,” said Deanna Luedtke, commander of Women Veterans of Freeborn County, during the dedication.

Luedtke said Perry treated everyone with kindness, respect and grace and was an invaluable inspiration to all who knew her, but especially the women veterans.
