Michael “Mike” Earl Westland, age 46 of Prescott, passed away from cancer on November 6th, 2024.

He was born to Stanley and Virgina Westland on March 5th, 1978 in Beaver Dam, WI. At the age of 1 ½, Mike and his family moved to Albert Lea, MN. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1996 where he excelled in football, hockey, and baseball. Mike earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and Economics from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN in 2001. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with Aquinas Scholars Honors. While there, Mike was a member of the football team as a fullback and kicker, being named captain his senior year in 2000/2001. Upon graduating from the University of St. Thomas, Mike returned to the sidelines as an assistant coach for the Tommies.

Mike’s professional career started in 1999 with Minnesota Coaches, Inc. He was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in 2006. This was a title he continued to hold at his next two places of employment including Logistics Planning Services from 2009 – 2017, and finally, Bay and Bay Transportation from 2018 – present. In 2015, he was honored as the CFO of the Year from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Journal. Mike was known for his integrity and unparalleled commitment to excellence, as well as, being an exceptional team member.

However, Mike’s greatest titles were husband and father. He married the love of his life, Jasmine, on October 6th, 2012. Mike became a dad on November 25th, 2014, following the birth of his oldest son, Declan. His youngest son, Hendricks, arrived shortly thereafter on December 11th, 2017. Mike cherished his time with his family and creating lasting memories. This included their annual trips to Door County, WI and most recently a summer trip to Europe in August of 2023. However some of his greatest joys were attending his sons, nieces and nephews sporting events, always serving as their biggest supporter.

Mike and his family currently reside in Prescott, WI. He was a beloved member of the community known for his kindness and generosity. Mike was active as a football, hockey and baseball coach. His passion and patience for teaching and mentoring his players were often on display most weeknights and weekends, even following his cancer diagnosis.

And finally Mike’s love for golf was well known by his closest friends, family members and colleagues. He enjoyed his final golf trip to Scotland in August 2024. He will forever be remembered for his titanic tee shots, competitive spirit, and infectious smile, bringing so much joy to everyone who had the opportunity to play a round of golf with him.

In addition to his parents, Stanley (Sherry) Westland and Virginia “Jinny” Westland, Mike is survived by his loving and adoring wife of 12 years, Jasmine Westland; sons, Declan and Hendricks; sister Carrie Westland; nephews Jacob and Aaron; sister, Sarah (Reid) Olson; nephews, Alex and Michael and niece, Maggie; mother-in-law, Christine (Michael) Howard; father-in-law, James (Gina) Pugin; sister-in-law, Elisha (Phil) Shepherd; nieces, Adeline and Olivia; brother-in-law, Rob (Julie) Bilo; nephews, Braden (Caitlin), CJ and Sam; nieces, Peyton and Ryan. Michael especially loved and was very close with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prescott, with Father Michael Tix and Deacon Jerry Rynda officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, and to a reception and time of fellowship following the Mass at The Confluence Hotel in Hastings. There will not be a visitation at church on Wednesday morning.

In lieu of any flower’s, Mike’s family kindly requests memorials be made to the future of his children’s education. Memorials can be made to Premier Bank, % Mike Westland Memorial Account, and can be given to the family or mailed to Premier Bank, 101 E. 10th Street, Hastings, MN 55033.
